Abstract

The immune system sustains human health via the complementary action of its two branches: the innate and the adaptive immune systems. Fully harnessing the immune system is fundamental to a healthier future, yet we have neglected the innate branch in developing new medicines. Precision modulation of innate immunity can unlock transformative solutions for society’s major health challenges, from rapidly mutating pathogens to chronic disease.

Sculpting Innate Immunity was one of ARIA's original opportunity spaces. Following an evolution of our research portfolio in August 2026, it now sits within the Programmable Physiology opportunity space. The beliefs and observations that defined Sculpting Innate Immunity still hold, and its remit continues in full within Programmable Physiology with respect to both future programmes and seed funding. No active funding was affected by this change.
